Companies That Best Support LGBT Employees

Target Famous for its company-wide acceptance of allowing transgender customers to use the bathroom of his or her choosing, Target has been noted by the likes of the Human Rights Campaign as one of the most LGBT-inclusive companies. Its executives have even teamed up with organizations such as GLSEN to help promote the hiring of LGBT employees. The overall culture of inclusion is evident upon walking into a Target store and finding a Pride flag sticker on the door.

 

Google

Google is home to an employee resource group titled The Gayglers, which, according to the company website, “is comprised of LGBT Googlers and their allies.” The organization works closely with outside LGBT advocacy groups, and aims to ensure that Google is a workplace that is safe for any LGBT employee. Wells Fargo Listed as part of DiversityInc’s Top 50 List, Wells Fargo “promotes growth through recruitment, leadership development and identifying and retaining diverse leaders.”

 

Apple

Yes, the home of our most favorite iPhones and iOS operating system is touted by Business Insider as one of America’s most LGBT-friendly companies. If same-sex couples are not legally married by their state, the same-sex partner of an Apple employee is included on the employee’s health insurance plan.

 

JW Marriott International

The Marriott hotel chain has partnered with PFLAG to better its awareness of the LGBT community. According to its website, Marriott “believes [its] core strength lies in our ability to embrace differences and create opportunities for all employees, guests, owners and franchisees and suppliers. Marriott’s diversity and inclusion policy is a company-wide priority supported by our board-level committee of excellence.”

 

MassMutual

Priding itself on a spot on Diversity, Inc.’s Top 10 list, MassMutual holds “first responder status to advocate for the repeal for the Defense of Marriage Act” and provides employees with its PRIDE Employee Resource Group, according to the company website. It has also been previously recognized by the Human Rights Campaign for its commitment to LGBT employees.

 

Starbucks

Yes, the green goddess of caffeine makes Huffington Post’s list of five companies going “above and beyond for the LGBT community.” Starbucks’ corporate headquarters even flew a Pride flag outside its building, and provides equal benefits for same-sex partners of employees.

 

Chevron

Another company earning a spot on the Huffington Post list, Chevron, like MassMutual, provides a PRIDE Employee Resource Group to its workers.
